This is why it pays to plan if you’re dining out (Image: Getty)

When you’re planning a fun day out or date night the last thing you want to do is map out every last detail, down to where you’ll be grabbing lunch or dinner. But doing so can save you a small fortune off your bill.

There are plenty of websites online to look for great dining out deals – you just need to know where to look.

Buyagift.co.uk and Virgin Experiences always offer discounted restaurant offers for a wide range of locations. Groupon, Lastminute.com and Wowcher are also great online resources for finding local deals too.

If you’re an O2 customer, keep the O2 Priority app on hand as they also offer great value foodie deals too.

Tastecard
Tastecard can be a great investment if you regularly dine out

If you regularly dine out it may be worth investing in a Tastecard which promises to get you either 2 for 1 deals or 50% off at over 6000 UK restaurants. You can try it for 60 days for just a £1 over the summer with this promotional code: SUMMERPOUND17.

Best dining out deals this month

Deal highlights we’ve spotted for this month include a three course meal plus a glass of wine at Zizzi for two which costs £30 (usually £50.50).

5 top tips for saving money when eating out

These little tricks can save you a fortune (Image: Getty)

1. Don’t get expensive fizzy drinks – they can really add up. Sticking to tap water can save you a lot of money, and mean that you have more cash to spend on your delicious food.

2. If you do want a drink, go during Happy Hour, where you can get 2 for 1 offers on alcohol.

3. Make use of voucher codes where possible, sites such as Savoo, Voucherbox and HotUKdeals . You can also get student discount at most restaurants and takeaways if you’re studying.

4. Check the menu beforehand so you know what you’re ordering before you’re put under pressure, or order three times the amount because you’re so hungry.

5. Sign up for newsletters to make sure that you’re always up to date on their latest offers and check online for cash back offers from sites such as Quidco and TopCashback before you leave. Quidco will even offer you £10 just for referring a friend.
