Jio Rs. 149 Plan Gets Unlimited Data, Google Pixel 2 Leaks, and More: Your 360 Daily

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jio’s Rs. 149 plan now has unlimited data post-FUP at 64kbps
  • Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 have leaked in all their glory
  • Some iPhone 8 Plus units allegedly splitting open due to swollen battery

Reliance Jio has eased the data restrictions on its Rs. 149 prepaid plan, which now offers unlimited data at 64kbps after you run out your 2GB allotment for the 28-day validity period. Earlier, customers had to avail a top-up voucher to continue Internet services. The post-FUP speed is still half of what you get on other Jio plans, but it’ll help those in situations where you’d have been cut off.

In other Jio-related news, a representative of the telecom operator has confirmed that the maximum duration of a single call on its network is five hours. If Jio subscribers cross that limit on any given day, all outgoing call services are restricted for the rest of that day. To restore calls, users would then need to top up with Rs. 149. The limit is only on a five-hour call for Jio customers, which means you’re allowed to make multiple hour-long calls to your friends as long as all of them are below that threshold.

Google Pixel 2, XL 2 press renders leaked; Android Oreo climbs to 0.2 percent
We’re merely a day away from the launch of Google’s second-generation Pixel phones, but they’ve shown up in all their glory thanks to tipster Evan Blass. Blass posted press renders of both the Pixel 2and Pixel XL 2 on his Twitter account on Sunday, which show the smaller phone with a 5-inch 16:9 display and the bigger one with an 18:9 screen. Going by the images, it seems that both new Pixel phones won’t have a rear dual camera setup.

Elsewhere, Google has updated its Google Play distribution data, which shows that 0.2 percent of Android devices are now running the latest version, 8.0 Oreo. Nougat meanwhile has gone up by two points to 17.8, while Marshmallow still commands the lead at a whopping 32 percent.

Apple ‘looking into’ reports of iPhone 8 Plus splitting open
Two users of the new iPhone 8 Plus have shared images of their phone splitting open owing to a swollen battery, which has attracted enough attention to warrant a comment from Apple. The Cupertino giant said that it’s “looking into” the two reported cases, according to The Independent. One of the buyers, a Taiwanese woman, noticed the front panel bulging out after just three minutes of charge. The other, a Japanese, tweeted photos of his phone which have since attracted almost 15,000 retweets.

All Nokia phones will get Android P
It’s not been long since the arrival of Android Oreo, but Nokia brand owner HMD Global is already taking about Android P. The company has confirmed that all current Nokia phones – the Nokia 3, the Nokia 5, the Nokia 6, and the Nokia 8 – will be upgraded to Android Oreo by the end of the year, and receive Android P when it’s released, likely next year.

Xiaomi’s September total was more than 10 million
Xiaomi shipped more than 10 million smartphones worldwide in the month of September, its CEO Lei Jun has announced. Alongside, Xiaomi’s India head Manu Kumar Jain shared that it has sold a total of 25 million smartphones since entering the country roughly three years ago. Xiaomi is still getting beat in its home market of China by Huawei, which shipped 38.4 million devices in Q2 2017 to Xiaomi’s total of 23.16 million.

Mate 10 Pro leaks, Honor Holly 4 India launch, and Huawei Nova 2i unveiled
A little under two weeks from its official launch, Huawei’s Mate 10 Pro has shown up in leaked press renders, which shows the phone with an 18:9 screen and dual cameras at the back. The Leica brand name is also visible at the back, which confirms that the Chinese company has worked with the German optics firm again. There’s also the mention of f/1.6 aperture, which makes it the largest value on par with the LG V30. A tipster suggests that the Mate 10 Pro might be priced at EUR 930-940 (roughly Rs. 72,000).

Meanwhile, Huawei launched the Honor Holly 4 in India on Tuesday, whose highlights include a fingerprint sensor, 13-megapixel camera, dual-SIM support, and a metal design. The phone runs Android 7.0 Nougat on a 5-inch HD display, powered by a Snapdragon 430 and 3GB of RAM. It costs Rs. 11,999, and is available for purchase in Honor partner stores offline starting now. The Holly 4 has three colour variants: Gold, Grey, and Silver.

And in Malaysia, Huawei unveiled the Nova 2i on Tuesday. It has a 5.9 full-HD 18:9 FullView display, and a total of four cameras: two on the front, and two on the back. That makes it capable of shooting bokeh-capable portraits with blurred backgrounds. The front cameras are 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel, while the rear ones are 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel. Both the lesser-resolution sensors are used for perceiving depth.
