Leonardo DiCaprio At RSS Event? Plans For Mega London Show, Say Reports

Leonardo DiCaprio’s name is being floated in connection with an RSS event in London

NEW DELHI:  The next big event of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) may see its chief Mohan Bhagwat share the stage with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Reports suggest the Oscar-winning actor may be one of the star attractions at a rare public event planned by the RSS next month to mark the 50th anniversary of its foreign wing Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh.

The RSS has not officially confirmed it. Its spokesperson MG Vaidya said he is “not aware of any celebrities attending.”

Reports say DiCaprio, 41, may be asked to share his thoughts on being a vegan and on cow protection. Some reports say flamboyant businessman Richard Branson may also attend the three-day “Sanskriti Mahashivir” or culture fest from July 29 to 31 at the Hertfordshire County Show ground in Luton, 45 km from London.

On July 31, the RSS chief may address Indians in an event inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rock-star speech at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2014. The RSS estimates that around 10,000 people will attend the show seen as an attempt by the organisation to widen its base abroad.

Mr Vaidya told NDTV that Mr Bhagwat is planning to travel to the UK along with general secretary Dattatreya Hosbole for a six-day visit.

This will be Mr Bhagwat’s second trip to the UK since he took over as chief of the RSS, which is the BJP’s ideological mentor.

The RSS’ foreign wing is active in more than 30 countries and organizes meetings, called the “shakhas” six days a week.
