The underbelly of a flyover is hardly the spot you would pick where to chill with friends or while away a lazy couple of hours, right? Chances are, the underside of Tulpule Flyover on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in Mumbai will change your mind.
Beneath the flyover lies the newly-opened Nanalal D Mehta Garden, a park that was converted from concrete into a green patch by the local residents of Matunga. The citizens worked hard to make sure that the space was utilized well – they planted trees, installed benches and used colourful lights to beautify this area.
According to information posted on Facebook, a NGO named One Matunga took the initiative of transforming the empty space into a lush pathway for commuters. The garden is now being used as a thoroughfare by pedestrians.
These pictures showcase an innovative use of space, transforming a stretch of urban wasteland into a little piece of paradise.
Time for other metro cities to follow suit, wouldn’t you agree?
