Search “Planet Fitness promo codes” and you will find pages full of codes. Type any of them at signup and nothing will happen, because Planet Fitness does not have a promo code field. There is no national coupon, no discount code, and nothing to paste at checkout.

The referral is the closest thing to a Planet Fitness promo code

Planet Fitness runs a referral program through its app, and the terms are unusually good on both sides. From Planet Fitness’ own description:

“Every friend you refer that joins earns you a free month (up to 3 months/year)! Plus, your friends get a great deal of $1 down and no commitment.”

Read the second half carefully, because two separate things are being given away. $1 down waives most of the usual enrollment cost. No commitment is arguably worth more — it removes the 12-month obligation that otherwise applies to many memberships, which means you can cancel any time without a buyout fee.

So the practical move is: do not join cold. If you know anyone with a Planet Fitness membership, ask them to refer you through the PF App before you sign up. They get a free month, you get $1 down with no commitment, and neither of you needed a coupon code. If you do not know a member, it is worth asking around before you walk in — that one question is worth more than every promo code page combined.

The year-one math nobody puts on a coupon page

“$1 down” is a joining price, not a membership price. Here is what a full first year actually costs at Planet Fitness’ published starting rates.

Classic: $1 + (12 × $15) + $49 annual fee = $230.00
PF Black Card: $1 + (12 × $24.99) + $49 annual fee = $349.88

Both figures are before state and local taxes, and both assume the starting rate. Planet Fitness states that prices vary by location and that clubs are independently owned and operated, so your club may charge more.

The $49 annual fee is the number people forget

It is in the asterisked fine print on every Planet Fitness page: “Subject to an annual fee of $49.” That is a separate charge on top of your monthly dues, and on a $15 Classic membership it is equivalent to more than three extra months of dues. Any honest comparison between Planet Fitness and another gym has to include it.

And the commitment is a real obligation

Planet Fitness explains it plainly: the commitment length is the minimum number of months you will be billed, and if you cancel before that, you may be subject to a buyout fee. No Commitment memberships can be cancelled any time without a fee.

Memberships “may include” a 12-month commitment — meaning it depends on the club and the offer. This is exactly why the referral deal matters: it explicitly comes with no commitment, which converts a year-long obligation into a month-to-month one.

Classic or Black Card? The extra ~$10 a month buys a lot

Both tiers include unlimited home club access, free in-club fitness training with certified trainers, PF App workouts, free WiFi, and PF Perks.

Black Card adds access to any of Planet Fitness’ 2,900+ locations worldwide, the ability to bring a guest free on every visit, PF+ premium app content, 50% off select drinks, and the Black Card Spa — massage chairs, HydroMassage, tanning, Total Body Enhancement, the Wellness Pod, and the Recovery Lounge.

The guest privilege is the one that quietly pays for the upgrade. If you train with a partner who would otherwise need their own membership, one Black Card covers both of you at roughly $10 a month more than one Classic membership. That is a far better return than any percentage-off code would produce.

One caveat: several spa amenities carry Planet Fitness’ ¹ footnote, meaning participating locations only. Confirm your specific club has the equipment before you upgrade for it.

PF Perks: the discount program inside the discount

Planet Fitness includes a member perks program — partner discounts and special offers on outside brands. Black Card members get an expanded “Premium Perks” tier.

Two practical details that catch people out

Payment method. Planet Fitness states that many clubs accept payment through checking accounts only, via electronic funds transfer. If you were planning to put a gym membership on a credit card, call your club first — it may not be an option.

Age rules. You can join at 13 or older with a parent or guardian’s permission. Members aged 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when working out, many clubs require the same for 14-year-olds, and members 15–17 need a signed waiver. Enrolling on your own requires being 18.
