Spotify’s student discount is one of the most straightforward in streaming: half off, for as long as you’re enrolled, with no separate promo code to hunt for. Here’s exactly how it works.
What you get
Spotify Premium Student is 50% off the standard Premium Individual price — full Premium features (ad-free listening, offline downloads, higher audio quality) at half the cost. The plan also bundles Hulu’s ad-supported plan at no extra charge, on top of the discounted Spotify price.
Who qualifies
You need to be enrolled at an accredited institution of higher education (college or university) and at least 18 years old. High schoolers don’t qualify — this is specifically a college-student plan.
How verification works
Spotify verifies student status through a third-party service called SheerID, not a school email address alone. You’ll need to re-verify annually to keep the discounted rate, and the discount is available for up to 4 years total. New subscribers who haven’t tried Premium before typically get an initial free trial period before billing starts.
What happens after you graduate
Once you’re no longer a verified student (or you hit the multi-year cap), your subscription automatically converts to the standard Premium Individual plan at full price. There’s no penalty — it just stops being discounted.
