If you came here looking for the Subway deal where three footlongs earned you a free one, stop looking. That mechanic ended. Sub Club still exists, still carries the same name, and still shows up on Subway’s homepage — but what it pays out changed fundamentally in the first quarter of 2026, and almost every coupon page still online describes the old version.
Here is the accurate current picture, the timeline that got us here, and a deadline you need to check if you were holding rewards.
What changed, and when
| Date | What happened | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| December 2025 | Subway revives Sub Club after 20 years. Earn a free footlong after buying three footlongs (or six 6-inch subs). MVP Rewards members auto-converted into it. | Trade reporting |
| February 23, 2026 | Subway stops awarding Sub Club credit on Fresh Value menu purchases. | Consumer reporting |
| April 1, 2026 | Sub Club becomes purely a points system — points per dollar spent, converted to Subway Cash rather than free sandwiches. | Consumer reporting |
| Now (Sept 2026) | Subway’s own site promotes Sub Club with “new rewards every week” and “exclusive deals for Sub Club members.” | Merchant-direct |
Verification note: the current existence of Sub Club, the weekly-rewards structure, and the member-exclusive framing are confirmed on subway.com. The specific dates and mechanics of the December 2025 relaunch and the 2026 conversion come from trade and consumer reporting, not from a Subway press page we could read directly. We have labeled them that way in the table rather than presenting them as merchant-confirmed.
The deadline that matters if you were holding a free sub
The transition came with two different redemption windows, and they are not the same length:
- Free subs earned before February 23, 2026 — reportedly 12 months to redeem
- Free subs awarded February 23 through March 31, 2026 — reportedly only 60 days
If you were in the second group, that window has long closed. If you were in the first, you are inside the tail end of it as of this writing. Open the app and check your account. This is the single most actionable thing on this page, and it takes thirty seconds.
Why people are annoyed, in numbers
The complaint is not sentimental. Under the stamp-style structure, a free footlong after three purchases works out to roughly a 25% discount on the footlong line of your order — a large, predictable, easy-to-understand return. Customers who ran the math on the old combined benefits reported an effective cost a little over $7 per footlong.
A points-to-Subway-Cash system does not automatically pay less — but it does two things that reliably reduce what people actually collect. It makes the return opaque, because you now have to know the earn rate and the conversion rate to calculate anything. And it makes the reward divisible, so instead of one clean free sandwich you get an amount of store credit that may not cover a whole item.
We are not going to publish an effective percentage for the current program, because Subway does not publish the points-per-dollar rate or the Subway Cash conversion rate anywhere we could read. Anyone telling you the new program is worth X% is guessing. Check the rate inside your own app.
What Subway is actually promoting right now
From subway.com, as of this check:
- Sub Club — “New rewards every week” and “exclusive deals for Sub Club members.” The weekly cadence is the operative detail: this is a program you have to check, not one that accumulates quietly in the background the way a stamp card did.
- Hot Honey Signature Swicy Collection — a limited-time menu lineup. No end date published.
- A game tie-in promotion — buy a meal, get an in-game outfit and rewards for ARC Raiders. Terms and conditions apply, per Subway. Worth exactly as much as you value in-game cosmetics, which for most people is zero, but it costs nothing extra.
- Gift cards — no bonus-value promotion listed at this check.
- Catering — promoted around football season with subs, sides, and party platters.
Where the real footlong savings are now
- The app is the only place deals exist. Subway’s own 404 page tells visitors to download the iOS or Android app to order ahead and earn rewards. There is no printable coupon, no code on the website, and nothing at the counter. If it is not in the app, it is not an offer.
- Check weekly, not monthly. “New rewards every week” means offers rotate out. A points balance that sits unused while good weekly offers cycle past is the most common way people underuse this program.
- Know that Fresh Value stopped earning. The cheap menu is still cheap, but purchases on it reportedly stopped generating Sub Club credit in February 2026. So the value menu and the rewards program now pull in different directions — decide which one you are optimizing for on a given order rather than assuming both apply.
- Catering for groups beats individual subs. If you are feeding a team or a watch party, platter pricing is where Subway is competitive, and it is the one part of the menu where the per-head number is genuinely good.
- Expect price variation between locations. Subway is overwhelmingly franchised. There is no single national footlong price, which is why every “Subway footlong price” page you find disagrees with your receipt. Your store sets it.
- Ignore the BOGO codes floating around. Subway has historically run BOGO and dollar-off promotions as time-limited app campaigns tied to specific accounts and regions. Codes republished on aggregator sites are usually dead campaigns, and there is no universal one.
What we could not verify
- The points-per-dollar earn rate under the current program. Not published anywhere we could read.
- The Subway Cash conversion rate. Without it, the program’s real return cannot be calculated.
- Whether the free-sub redemption deadlines were applied uniformly across all accounts and locations.
- Current Fresh Value menu pricing, which varies by franchise.
- An end date on the Hot Honey Signature Swicy Collection. Described as limited time, no date given.
- Whether any legacy MVP Rewards balances survived both conversions. If you had one, the app is the only place to check.
Frequently asked questions
Does Subway still give a free footlong after three?
No. That mechanic was part of the Sub Club relaunch in December 2025 and was reported to end when the program converted to a pure points system on April 1, 2026. Pages still describing it are out of date.
What happened to Subway MVP Rewards?
MVP Rewards members were reported to be automatically converted into Sub Club when it relaunched in December 2025. MVP Rewards is not a separate program you can join now.
What is Subway Cash?
Store credit that Sub Club points convert into, replacing the free-sandwich payout. The conversion rate is not published on Subway’s public pages — check inside the app.
Are there Subway coupon codes?
Nothing universal that we can verify. Subway’s offers run as app campaigns that are region- and account-specific. A code republished on a coupon site is most likely a dead campaign.
How much is a Subway footlong?
There is no national price. Subway is franchised, and locations set their own pricing, which is why published footlong prices vary widely by state and by store.
Do I still earn rewards on the Fresh Value menu?
Reportedly not, as of February 23, 2026. The value menu still costs less; it just stopped feeding the rewards program.
Offer provenance
The current existence of Sub Club, its “new rewards every week” structure, the member-exclusive framing, the Hot Honey limited-time collection, the game tie-in promotion, gift cards, catering, and Subway’s own direction to use the app for ordering and rewards all come from subway.com, read September 8, 2026. The December 2025 relaunch mechanics, the February 23, 2026 Fresh Value change, the April 1, 2026 conversion to points and Subway Cash, and the 12-month and 60-day redemption windows come from trade and consumer reporting and are labeled as reported rather than merchant-confirmed. No points rate, conversion rate, coupon code, or price has been invented on this page.
