Ulta Beauty’s own coupon page showed no coupon codes at last check, so for most shoppers the real savings come from the Ulta Beauty Rewards program, product-level sales, and gift-with-purchase offers. Points are worth 3 to 6.25 cents each depending on how many you redeem at once, and that sliding scale matters more than any single coupon. Here is how it all works, based only on what Ulta publishes.

How the Ulta Beauty Rewards program works
Ulta Beauty Rewards is free to join and needs no purchase. Every member earns points on qualifying purchases and qualifying in-store beauty services, and the earn rate rises with your tier. Points are counted on whole dollars, rounded down, so a $19.99 purchase earns 19 points at the base rate.
Tiers and points per $1
| Tier | Qualifying spend (Jan 1 to Dec 31) | Points per $1 | Points expire? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Member | None | 1 | Yes |
| Platinum | $500 | 1.25 | No, while status is held |
| Diamond | $1,200 | 1.5 | No, while status is held |
Platinum or Diamond status lasts through December 31 of the following calendar year, so it runs for at least 12 and at most 24 months. You have to re-qualify each calendar year. Gift cards, taxes, tips and donations don’t count toward tier spend.
Diamond adds free shipping on orders of $25 or more (excluding Alaska and Hawaii), $25 off a qualifying beauty service, a full-size welcome gift, and an extra birthday perk. Platinum adds non-expiring points and an extra birthday perk.
What points are worth: the redemption chart
| Points | Dollars off | Value per point |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | $3.00 | 3.0 cents |
| 250 | $8.00 | 3.2 cents |
| 500 | $17.50 | 3.5 cents |
| 750 | $30.00 | 4.0 cents |
| 1,000 | $50.00 | 5.0 cents |
| 2,000 | $125.00 | 6.25 cents |
The value-per-point column is our own division of Ulta’s published chart. The minimum redemption is 100 points. You can redeem up to 10,000 points per purchase in store and 4,000 online, and you can combine levels (600 points = $20.50). Points can’t be used in the transaction that earned them or on gift cards, shipping, taxes, or UB Marketplace items.
Honest math: what spending actually returns
A Member who spends $100 earns 100 points, which is $3 off, a 3% return. Hold those points until you reach 1,000 and the same $100 of spending is worth $5, a 5% return. At 2,000 points it is $6.25 per $100, or 6.25%.
The catch is expiration. For Members, points expire at the end of the calendar quarter after the one-year anniversary of when they were earned. A Member would need to spend about $2,000 within that window to reach the 2,000-point level, which would make them Diamond (non-expiring) anyway. For a typical Member, the realistic return is closer to 3% to 4%.
Return at the 2,000-point level by tier, with and without an Ulta credit card (+1 point per $1):
- Member: 1 point per $1, so 6.25% at the 2,000-point level. With the card, 2 points per $1, so 12.5%.
- Platinum: 1.25 points per $1, so about 7.8%. With the card, 2.25 points per $1, so about 14.1%.
- Diamond: 1.5 points per $1, so about 9.4%. With the card, 2.5 points per $1, so about 15.6%.
Points are earned on the final sale price, so a $40 item bought with a $10 discount earns points on $30. And returns take back the points the purchase earned, even if that leaves your balance negative.
Birthday gift and birthday points
Members get one birthday gift a year during their birthday month, while supplies last. You need a birthday in your profile plus email or the app. In store, the terms say no purchase is needed. For pickup or online orders, you need a purchase with a subtotal above $0 and may need a coupon code. Members also earn 2X points on qualifying purchases during their birthday month once they activate the offer, so a $60 birthday-month purchase earns 120 points at the Member tier.
How coupons for Ulta work
Ulta’s coupon page showed “No coupons are available right now” at last check. When Ulta does issue coupons, its rewards FAQ gives “$3.50 off $15” as an example of the dollars-off-a-minimum style, from Ulta’s beauty magazine. Ulta’s Guest Services page sets the rules for every coupon:
- Only one coupon code per order on ulta.com, and each code works once.
- One coupon per customer, and it can’t be combined with other Ulta Beauty coupon offers.
- Coupons don’t work on UB Marketplace items, Replenish & Save orders, third-party marketplaces, Ulta Beauty at Target, or purchases outside the U.S.
The biggest limit is the exclusion list. Ulta’s coupon exclusions page excludes all fragrance brands and then lists roughly 200 brands and product lines, including CHANEL, Dior, Clinique, Charlotte Tilbury, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Benefit Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown, and Dermalogica. The exclusions page doesn’t separate dollars-off coupons from percent-off coupons, so read the terms printed on the coupon itself.
Points and coupons can be used together. The rewards FAQ says points “can be combined with other discounts and special offers,” except on online AfterPay transactions. Discounts from vendor coupons don’t earn points, though.
Sales, BOGOs and gifts with purchase
Most of Ulta’s discounts need no code. The Current Offers page groups them into brand sales (such as the 30% off select Bath & Body Works fragrances in the table), Buy More Save More deals (BOGO-style offers, where the discounted item usually has to be of equal or lesser value), and a long list of gifts with purchase that come with brand-specific minimums. Many are online or app only, and several we saw ended before publication.
The Ulta Beauty Rewards credit cards
Comenity Capital Bank issues two cards: the Ulta Beauty Rewards Credit Card, which works only at Ulta Beauty stores and ulta.com, and the Ulta Beauty Rewards Mastercard, which works anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Both add 1 point per $1 on qualifying Ulta purchases. The Mastercard also earns 1 point per $3 on non-Ulta purchases.
New cardholders get “20% off your first purchase.” The discount applies after other coupons and discounts, works one time only, and may be capped by a temporary credit limit. If you’re approved online, you have to opt in to Ulta emails to get the coupon. On a $150 first order, 20% is $30 off. If a $20 coupon has already been applied, the 20% comes off the remaining $130, which is $26. The card page also lists free standard shipping in the continental U.S. when the whole order goes on the card, through 11/14/2026.
Ulta’s card page didn’t show the APR or annual fee, so read the issuer’s rate and fee disclosure before applying. Card points only come out ahead if you pay in full.
21+ Days of Beauty and other seasonal events
Ulta’s 21+ Days of Beauty page describes a twice-yearly sale held in March and September that runs about three weeks. It features Daily and Weekly Beauty Steals and advertises 50% off top brands. At last check the page said the event was over, and it gave no start or end dates for the next one. The Fall Haul sale (up to 30% off makeup, hair, skin and body care) was also marked over, with only “starts in September” as timing.
How to save at Ulta without a coupon
- Join Ulta Beauty Rewards before you buy. Points aren’t earned on purchases made before you join, or online without being logged in.
- Save points for the 1,000- or 2,000-point levels if they won’t expire first. Platinum and Diamond members can wait as long as they keep their status.
- Plan larger purchases for your birthday month to get 2X points, and pick up the birthday gift in store, where no purchase is needed.
- Use the Buy More Save More and gift-with-purchase pages for brands that are on the coupon exclusion list, since sales and gifts often still apply to them.
- Use Replenish & Save on repeat buys for 5% off and free shipping (no coupons; points only on the first order).
- Diamond members close to $25 can add an item for free shipping instead of paying the $6.95 standard rate.
What we could not verify
- Coupon category scope: Ulta’s Guest Services page (as we read it) lists excluded categories beyond fragrance, such as prestige cosmetics, haircare, skincare and bath, salon services, Dyson and clearance. The coupon exclusions page names only “all fragrance brands” as a category, plus a brand list. We are reporting both. Check the terms on your specific coupon.
- No “20% off one item” coupon was shown on any Ulta page we read, and the coupon page had no coupons at last check, so we can’t describe that offer’s current terms.
- The Bath & Body Works banner said “through Nov 14” with no year.
- Terms for the credit card free-gift offer and the card footnotes on the Current Offers page weren’t shown.
- The card page’s FAQ and its Mastercard description differ slightly on whether the 1-point-per-$3 rate applies “outside of Ulta Beauty” or “anywhere Mastercard is accepted.”
- The 21+ Days of Beauty page advertised 50% off, but its featured products showed smaller markdowns. The page title and body also disagreed about which season was next.
- We found no student, military or teacher discount on the Ulta pages we read.
FAQ
How many points do you need for a reward at Ulta?
The minimum is 100 points, worth $3 off. Larger levels give more value per point, up to 2,000 points for $125 off.
Do Ulta points expire?
For Members, yes: at the end of the calendar quarter after the one-year anniversary of when the points were earned. Platinum and Diamond members’ points don’t expire while they keep that status.
Do Ulta coupons work on prestige brands and fragrance?
Usually not. Ulta’s coupon exclusions page excludes all fragrance brands and lists about 200 others, including CHANEL, Dior and Clinique.
Do you need to buy something to get the Ulta birthday gift?
Not in store, according to the rewards terms. For online or pickup orders, you need a purchase with a subtotal above $0, and a coupon code may be required.
Where these offers come from
Everything here comes from Ulta Beauty’s own pages: the Ulta Beauty Rewards terms and FAQ, Current Offers & Promotions, the coupon and coupon exclusions pages, Buy More Save More, Guest Services, the Ulta Beauty Rewards credit card page, and the 21+ Days of Beauty and Fall Haul pages. CheezyDeals labels every offer by source: “merchant_direct” means Ulta states it in program terms or its FAQ; “merchant-listed” and “last seen active” mean it appeared on an Ulta promotions page at last check. We didn’t do a checkout test. Read how we verify offers and our editorial policy. Like any careful mouse, check the trap before taking the cheese.
