Merchant: Macy’s · What this page covers: the promo code Macy’s itself was showing when we checked, how Star Rewards points turn into Star Money, what the Macy’s Card adds, free shipping thresholds, and the 10-day price adjustment · Sources: Macy’s own pages, listed under Where these offers come from.
Is there a Macy’s coupon code right now? Yes. When we checked, Macy’s own department pages were advertising code BEST for an extra 10% to 30% off, depending on the department (for example, “Extra 30% Off with code BEST” in women’s and men’s, “Extra 10% Off” in furniture and toys). No end date was printed. Macy’s allows only one promo code per order, and codes do not apply to Limited Time Specials or Deal of the Day items. The savings that last beyond any single code come from Star Rewards: points convert to Star Money at 1,000 points for $10, and the earning rate ranges from 1 to 5 points per dollar depending on your tier and whether you pay with a Macy’s Card.

How Macy’s promo codes work
Macy’s help center sets out the rules plainly:
- “Only one promo code can be applied per order.”
- You enter it in the Shopping Bag: open Offers, select See all, type the code in “Enter promo code,” and select Apply.
- Codes cannot be used on certain special promotions, including Limited Time Specials and Deal of the Day.
- “Everyday Value” items are regular low prices that Macy’s says are excluded from promotions and coupons.
- Store coupons typically do not work online, and online promo codes generally do not apply in stores.
Where we saw code BEST, banners said extra 30% in women’s, men’s, kids’, and the Christmas shop; 25% to 30% in handbags; 15% to 30% in jewelry and watches; 10% to 30% in home; and 10% in furniture, mattresses, and toys.
Example (our math, not a Macy’s quote): An $80 sale sweater eligible for the 30% tier drops $24, to $56 before tax. A $1,000 eligible furniture item at the 10% tier saves $100. On a Limited Time Special, the code does nothing.
Star Rewards: how points become Star Money
Star Rewards is Macy’s loyalty program. Anyone can join free at the Bronze tier. The higher tiers require a Macy’s credit card and are set by how much you spend on that card in a calendar year:
| Tier | Who qualifies | Points per $1 | Effective return (1,000 pts = $10) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Free members without a Macy’s Card | 1 | 1% |
| Silver | Cardholders, $1 to $499.99 in net qualifying purchases | 2 | 2% |
| Gold | Cardholders, $500 to $1,199.99 | 3 | 3% |
| Platinum | Cardholders, $1,200 and up | 5 | 5% |
The earning rates and tier thresholds come from Macy’s Star Rewards terms; the percentage column is our math. Two details in those terms matter more than the headline rates:
- The card rates only apply when you pay with the card. The terms say cardholders who pay another way earn at the Bronze rate of 1 point per dollar.
- Star Money expires fast. Each $10 reward is valid for 30 calendar days from issue and is forfeited at midnight Eastern Time on the expiration date. A partially used reward keeps its original expiration.
Points are not earned on gift cards, rugs, services, fees, sales tax, or any portion of a purchase paid with Star Money. Star Money itself cannot be spent on gift cards, services, or fees. If you make no rewards-earning purchase for 12 consecutive months, the terms say points and Star Money are forfeited. Tiers are recalculated once a year based on the prior calendar year’s purchases.
Example (our math): A Bronze member needs $1,000 in rewards-earning purchases for one $10 reward. A Platinum cardholder paying with the card gets there in $200. For occasional shoppers, the 30-day clock is the real constraint: use each reward on your next trip.
Macy’s also runs Star Money Bonus Days, but says it “is under no obligation to offer any particular number” of them, and members get a birthday surprise whose value “may vary for each member.”
What the Macy’s Card adds
The Macy’s Card (the store card or the Macy’s American Express Card) does three things beyond the points rate:
- A new-account discount. Macy’s standard offer is 20% off eligible merchandise in stores and 30% off on macys.com on the day you are approved, “limited to a total of $100 in savings.” It requires immediate approval and excludes services, gift cards, restaurants, and certain brands. Macy’s notes promotional versions may run instead, with different percentages or limits.
- Lower shipping thresholds (see the next section).
- Amex-only earning outside Macy’s: 3 points per $1 at restaurants, 2 at supermarkets, 2 at gas stations, and 1 elsewhere, plus the two limited-time offers in the table above.
Example (our math): The 30% online new-account discount hits its $100 cap at about $333 of eligible merchandise. Spending $500 on approval day saves $100, not $150. Below $333, you get the full 30%.
The Amex restaurant offer, 10 points per $1, works out to roughly a 10% return in Star Money, but only on qualifying restaurant purchases, after activation, until the printed Dec. 31 end date, and the Star Money still expires in 30 days. Before opening any credit card for a discount, weigh the interest rate; a one-time discount does not offset carried interest.
Free shipping and returns
Macy’s shipping help page lists these free standard shipping thresholds for the continental U.S.:
- Gold and Platinum: no minimum
- Bronze and Silver: $39
- Everyone else: $49
Below the threshold, standard delivery costs $10.95. Alaska, Hawaii, military addresses, and U.S. territories carry an extra $10.00 surcharge. Macy’s Star Rewards terms and card benefits page describe Silver members paying with a Macy’s Card qualifying at $25, and they state that Gold and Platinum free shipping applies when paying with the card. Furniture, mattresses, and rugs are excluded at every tier.
On returns, Macy’s says most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery or purchase. Star Rewards members get free return shipping by mail; non-members have a $9.99 fee (plus tax) taken out of the refund. In-store returns are free for everyone. Last Act items, gift cards, food, and altered or personalized items are final sale.
The 10-day price adjustment
If something you bought drops in price, Macy’s will refund the difference if you ask within 10 days of the order date. The lower price must be “an advertised Macy’s price”; Macy’s does not describe matching competitors. Request online orders through chat or phone, store purchases at a store with the receipt. Direct from Vendor items are excluded.
One catch: Macy’s says promotional discounts cannot be combined with a price adjustment, so if you used a code, compare what you actually paid with the new price.
How the pieces stack
Putting Macy’s rules together, here is what a single online order can combine, and what it cannot:
- One promo code (such as BEST) on eligible items.
- Star Money you already have in your Wallet, applied at checkout. Macy’s Star Money help page does not say whether it combines with a promo code, so check your bag total before you pay.
- Points on the purchase at your tier rate, though not on the portion paid with Star Money.
- Free shipping if you clear your tier’s threshold.
Example (our math): A Silver cardholder buys $100 of eligible clothing with code BEST at an extra 30% off, paying $70 with the card. At 2 points per dollar, that earns about 140 points, worth about $1.40. The code did most of the work. How to save at Macy’s without a coupon
- Join Star Rewards at Bronze for free: you earn points and get free mail returns.
- Sign up for Macy’s emails; its help center says codes are “often sent to email subscribers.”
- Check the Deals & Promotions page, which when we checked showed category sales such as $30 off every $150 beauty purchase and up to 65% off furniture, with no code required.
- Use the 10-day price adjustment if a price drops after you buy.
- Buy clearance or “Now” priced items, which Macy’s says are permanently reduced.
- Time big purchases to Macy’s major sales; our big deal days calendar and Black Friday deals guide list the events.
What we could not verify
- The full terms, exclusions, and end date for code BEST. Its promotion-details page did not load for us; we saw the code only on department banners.
- Whether a promo code and Star Money can be used on the same order. Macy’s help pages do not address it.
- Whether the new-account discount combines with a promo code.
- Current Star Money Bonus Days dates and any member-exclusive bonus point events.
- The year on the Amex “open by 10/31” and restaurant “Dec. 31” offers; the page did not print one.
- The Silver free shipping threshold. Macy’s shipping page lists $39 for Bronze and Silver, while its Star Rewards terms and card page list $25 for Silver paying with a Macy’s Card.
- Any military, student, teacher, or senior discount from Macy’s. We did not find one on Macy’s pages. See our military discounts master list for retailers that publish one.
- Whether points are calculated before or after promo code discounts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use two Macy’s promo codes on one order?
No. Macy’s help center says only one promo code can be applied per order.
How much is 1,000 Macy’s points worth?
$10 in Star Money, according to Macy’s Star Rewards terms. That reward expires 30 days after it is issued.
Do I need a Macy’s credit card to earn Star Rewards?
No. Bronze is free and earns 1 point per $1. Silver, Gold, and Platinum, with 2, 3, and 5 points per $1, require a Macy’s Card and paying with it.
Why didn’t my Macy’s code work?
Per Macy’s: unmet offer requirements, an excluded item, or an expired code. Limited Time Specials, Deal of the Day, and Everyday Value items do not take codes.
Does Macy’s give price adjustments?
Yes, within 10 days of the order date, to a lower advertised Macy’s price. A promotional discount cannot be combined with a price adjustment, and Direct from Vendor items are excluded.
