Short answer: there is no universal Great Clips coupon code you can type in somewhere to get a discount. Great Clips Online Check-In is a waitlist, not a checkout. You give your name, party size and phone number to hold a spot in line, and the check-in page we reviewed says nothing about entering a promo code or paying online. Any discount is applied at the salon, by that salon.
That matters because Great Clips is 100 percent franchised. Its newsroom says salons are owned locally by more than 700 franchisees. The customer service FAQ says each franchisee “decides which coupons they offer and accept,” and the promotions page says “most sales and coupons are locally created.” A coupon that works in one city can be refused across town, and that is how the system is designed to work. It doesn’t mean a stylist is being difficult.
Real Great Clips coupons do exist. They come from the company’s email list, the Great Clips app, local mailers, and occasional time-limited national campaigns. The FAQ gives a simple test for a legitimate digital coupon: it carries “a unique, single-use coupon code that is 5 or 6 characters long,” and its terms name the eligible salons and an expiration date. A “Great Clips promo code” that’s a generic word, or a code shared with everyone on a coupon site, fails that test.

Why there’s no Great Clips coupon code for online check-in
When people search for “great clips coupon codes,” they’re usually picturing a box at checkout where a code knocks dollars off. Great Clips doesn’t have that kind of checkout. On the Online Check-In page, the steps are: find a salon, pick it on the map, enter your name, party size and phone number, and optionally sign up for a text when your estimated wait reaches about 15 minutes. The page has no promo-code step and doesn’t mention online payment.
Because genuine digital codes are single-use and issued to one person, third-party “Great Clips coupon codes” so often fail. A code posted publicly is either a single-use code someone already used, a local coupon from a market you don’t live in, an expired campaign, or something made up. The FAQ warns that a coupon without a 5- or 6-character code “is likely not a valid Great Clips coupon.” For more on spotting these, see our guide to fake coupon site red flags.
How local Great Clips coupons work
Since salons are independently owned, most Great Clips discounts are local decisions. The promotions page says most sales and coupons “are locally created and are valid on an individual market, city or salon level.” Several things follow from that:
- Paper and mailer coupons are market-specific. The FAQ says a valid paper coupon should show an expiration date and explain where it’s valid. Read the fine print before you drive anywhere.
- A salon can decline a coupon. Each franchisee decides which coupons it offers and accepts. If you believe a salon wrongly refused a coupon, the FAQ says you can email Great Clips with the salon location and details, and it will pass them on to the franchisee.
- Prices differ by salon. The FAQ says the salon owner sets haircut prices and recommends calling or visiting for pricing. Individual salon pages list their own prices and note that “prices & services may vary by location.”
- Student discounts are up to each salon. The FAQ says franchisees decide whether to offer one, so call your local salon. Our student discounts master list covers chains with published programs.
The $2 email sign-up coupon
The Great Clips promotions page offers new email subscribers a coupon for $2 off their next haircut. The published terms: “Onetime offer only. Eligible for newly opted-in email addresses only. Not valid with other offers.” You can unsubscribe using the link in the footer of any Great Clips email.
Example math (illustrative round numbers, not Great Clips prices): $2 off a $20 haircut saves 10 percent; on a $30 haircut it saves about 6.7 percent. Since it can’t be combined with other offers, use it on a full-price cut.
The Great Clips app: check-in, ClipNotes and push deals
The app does two separate jobs. First, it handles Online Check-In and ReadyNext texts, which save time but no money. Second, it can deliver offers. The Great Clips welcome page says you can “get exclusive haircut deals, promotions and more sent right to your phone when you turn on push notifications.” It doesn’t describe any specific standing offer, so treat push deals as occasional, not guaranteed.
Great Clips has also run app-account promotions with written terms, such as a one-time $5-off coupon after two qualifying app check-in visits. That promotion has ended. Its terms show the usual structure: single use, non-transferable, one per customer, not combinable, and expiring 90 days after issue.
ClipNotes isn’t a discount program. According to the FAQ, ClipNotes “tracks details about any previous haircut you received at a Great Clips salon” so any stylist can repeat your cut. It doesn’t earn points or rewards, but it does take some of the guesswork out of visiting a new location.
Great Clips senior discount
Great Clips publishes a senior discount for customers age 65 and older. The details from the Senior Discounts page and the FAQ:
- Anyone 65 or older qualifies, with “no coupon needed.”
- It applies at participating salons only and “may vary by location.”
- It covers haircuts only, not add-on services such as styling or hair products.
- Tell your stylist at checkout that you qualify.
Great Clips doesn’t publish a national senior price or percentage, and we won’t guess one. Each participating salon sets its own. As an example of how it looks locally, one salon page we reviewed (Englewood, Colorado) listed a standard haircut at $26 and a senior haircut at $24, a $2 difference, or about 7.7 percent. Your salon may differ. Compare more programs in our senior discounts master list.
Military and veterans: Thank a Veteran
The customer service FAQ doesn’t describe an everyday military discount, and the salon page we checked didn’t list one either. What Great Clips does publish is its annual Thank a Veteran event. On November 11, veterans and active service members can get a free haircut or a free haircut card at any U.S. Great Clips salon. In Canada, the Remembrance Day version runs at participating salons. Non-military customers who visit that day can pick up a free haircut card to give to a veteran or service member.
If your local salon offers a military discount on other days, that’s a franchisee decision, so ask in person. For chains with published year-round programs, see our military discounts master list.
National Great Clips campaigns
Great Clips has run national sports-tie-in coupons (College Football Playoff, March Madness) claimed by registering on greatclips.com. They were valid only at participating salons, with short windows, and all the ones we found have ended. New ones get announced on greatclips.com and its newsroom, not on coupon sites. Seasonal timing for sales across many retailers is in our big deal days calendar.
How to find your Great Clips salon’s actual offers
- Look up your salon’s page for its services and prices.
- Join the email list for the $2 coupon and future offers.
- Turn on app push notifications for app-delivered deals.
- Keep local mailers and check which salons they cover and when they expire.
- Ask at the counter about senior, student or other local pricing.
- Check greatclips.com Promotions, and ignore codes that aren’t 5 or 6 characters and single-use.
How to save at Great Clips without a coupon
- Use the senior price if you’re 65 or older and your salon participates.
- Space out cuts with trims. The salon page we reviewed listed neck, bang and beard trims as separate services priced below a full cut. Check your salon’s menu.
- Skip add-ons you don’t need. Discounts like the senior price apply to haircuts, not styling or products.
- Don’t rush gift cards. The FAQ says they “never expire or lose value.”
Stacking order
Mostly, you can’t stack. The $2 email coupon is “not valid with other offers,” and the app account promotion’s terms said the same. In practice, plan on one discount per haircut and pick the largest one you’re eligible for. For a general approach to layering savings where stacking is allowed, see how to stack coupons, cashback and rewards.
What we could not verify
- Any national haircut price or national senior discount amount. Great Clips says salons set prices, and none is published nationally.
- Whether proof of age is required for the senior discount.
- Whether the Great Clips app’s check-in or account screens include a field for entering a coupon code. We found no first-party description of one.
- Any currently active national coupon campaign. The ones we found have ended.
- Any everyday military, teacher or first-responder discount published by Great Clips. Individual salons may offer one.
- Which salons accept any specific local mailer coupon.
- How often app push deals are sent, or what they typically offer.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Great Clips coupon code?
Not a universal one. Legitimate Great Clips digital coupons use unique, single-use codes 5 or 6 characters long, issued to individuals with listed eligible salons and an expiration date. A public code posted for everyone isn’t how the system works.
Can I use a coupon with Great Clips Online Check-In?
Online Check-In only holds your spot in line. The check-in page doesn’t mention coupons or online payment. Bring your coupon to the salon and present it there.
Why did my Great Clips salon refuse my coupon?
Each salon is owned by a franchisee who decides which coupons to offer and accept. Coupons are often valid only in a specific market, city or salon. If you believe a refusal was an error, Great Clips says you can email customer service with the salon location and details.
Does Great Clips have a senior discount?
Yes, at participating salons, for customers 65 and older, with no coupon needed. It applies to haircuts only, and the amount varies by location.
Do veterans get free haircuts at Great Clips?
On November 11, Great Clips’ Thank a Veteran event offers veterans and active service members a free haircut or free haircut card at U.S. salons. An everyday military discount is up to each salon.
How do I get the Great Clips email coupon?
Sign up for Great Clips emails through the Promotions page. New subscribers get a one-time $2-off haircut coupon by email. It isn’t valid with other offers.
