Senior Discounts Master List: Every Published Program by Category, With the Qualifying Age for Each

Last checked: September 16, 2026. Standing resource, updated as programs change. “Published” means the merchant states the discount on its own site or app. The qualifying age is the single most variable detail — 50, 55, 60, 62 and 65 all appear — so each entry lists it where the merchant publishes it. Many restaurant discounts are franchise decisions and are labeled as such.

Senior discounts are widespread, rarely advertised, and almost never automatic — you have to ask, and you have to know the age threshold the merchant uses. This list groups published programs by category with the qualifying age where the merchant states one. Where a discount is offered only by some franchisees, it says so. Where a chain has dropped a senior discount that coupon sites still list, it says that too.

Services and utilities

  • Cell carriers: T-Mobile (55+ plans), Verizon (55+ plans, originally Florida-only, later expanded — verify), AT&T (senior plans via AARP). Age 55+ is the standard.
  • Auto insurance: most major insurers offer mature-driver or defensive-driving-course discounts; age thresholds and course requirements vary by state.
  • Banks: senior checking accounts with waived fees at many regional banks; age 50–65 depending on bank.
  • Utilities and property tax: state and local senior programs (homestead exemptions, utility assistance) — not merchant discounts, but often the largest dollar amounts on this list. Check your state’s aging-services agency.

AARP: the membership that unlocks the rest

AARP membership (50+) is the most efficient single senior discount because so many programs — hotels, car rental, some restaurants, carriers, insurance — key off it rather than off age. The annual fee is small relative to one hotel stay’s discount. Its partner list is on AARP’s site and changes; treat it as the index for travel discounts.

How to use this list

  1. Note your qualifying ages: 50 (AARP), 55 (most retail and carriers), 60 (Kohl’s, movie chains), 62 (parks, Amtrak partial, Greyhound), 65 (Amtrak, some pharmacy).
  2. Ask. The majority of senior discounts are not posted and are applied only on request.
  3. Carry ID; most in-store programs require it.
  4. Set up the account-based ones once (myWalgreens for Senior Day, Michaels Rewards, carrier plans).

What we could not verify

Franchise participation at restaurants and regional Goodwill and movie-theater policies. Percentages at retailers are omitted where the merchant states them only in store or in the app, to avoid quoting stale numbers.
