Academy Sports + Outdoors — about 300 stores across the South, Southeast and Midwest. Program mechanics are from academy.com; weekly ad prices change weekly and vary by region.
Academy Sports discounts come from three published systems — a price-match policy, a military and first-responder discount, and the weekly ad — plus a rewards program and a periodic email signup offer. It does not run a standing percentage-off coupon, and the “Academy coupon codes” that circulate are mostly expired email offers. This page explains what’s real and how to combine it.

Price match: the biggest lever on big-ticket items
Academy matches the current price of an identical, in-stock item at a local brick-and-mortar competitor and at a published list of major online retailers. It excludes marketplace sellers, clearance and closeouts, bundle pricing, and limited-quantity doorbusters. On grills, kayaks, trampolines, treadmills, and firearms accessories the match is frequently worth far more than any coupon. Bring the competitor’s listing (screenshot with price and stock status) to the register or use online chat.
Military and first-responder discount
Academy publishes a discount for active duty military, veterans, and first responders, applied in store with valid ID on eligible regular-price items. Exclusions typically include gift cards, some firearms and ammunition, and select brands with pricing restrictions. Academy has also run larger military appreciation events around Memorial Day, July 4th and Veterans Day. See our military discounts master list for how it compares.
The weekly ad
Academy’s ad runs Sunday–Saturday and is regional — ammo, fishing and hunting categories in particular differ by market. The ad is where BOGO footwear and apparel, multi-buy ammo pricing, and seasonal (back-to-school, hunting season, holiday) sale prices live. Because Academy issues few coupons, the ad price is the discount for most items; check it before assuming a code exists.
myAcademy Rewards and the signup offer
myAcademy Rewards is free and earns points toward rewards certificates, with member-only offers pushed to the account. Combine it with the periodic email/text signup offer for new subscribers (the only merchant-issued code most people will see) for a first order. Both are account-tied; neither is a shareable code.
Stacking at Academy
Weekly ad or price-matched price → military/first-responder discount where eligible (on regular-price items) → one promo code (signup offer) if applicable online → rewards redemption → Academy credit card rewards on the final amount. Note the tension: the military discount applies to regular-price items, so on a sale item you take the sale price, not both.
