Short answer: no. Best Buy does not publish a military discount. When a shopper asked about one on Best Buy’s own product Q&A, the reply from Best Buy’s Memberships Expert Team said plainly, “we don’t offer a military discount,” and pointed to its prices, deals and Price Match Guarantee instead. We also found no military, veteran or student verification program on Best Buy’s membership, help or deals pages. What Best Buy does publish is a free My Best Buy account, two paid memberships (My Best Buy Plus and My Best Buy Total) that earn rewards points, a store credit card, financing offers, a Price Match Guarantee, open-box and outlet pricing, and trade-in credit. Those are the real levers, and none of them need a promo code.

Does Best Buy have a military discount?
No. On its product Q&A, an answer marked as coming from the Memberships Expert Team says Best Buy does not offer a military discount and points to the Price Match Guarantee. Customer answers saying otherwise are from shoppers, not Best Buy.
None of the membership or help pages we loaded mention a military, veteran or senior discount. If you see a “Best Buy military code” elsewhere, Best Buy’s own pages give no support for it. For retailers that do publish one, our military discounts master list collects them, and our guides to Home Depot’s military discount and Lowe’s MyLowe’s military program cover two big-box stores that have one.
My Best Buy memberships: free, Plus and Total
My Best Buy (free)
The free account gets free standard shipping with no minimum purchase, subject to exclusions on Best Buy’s shipping page, plus order tracking and faster checkout. It earns no points, and returns follow the standard 15-day window (14 days for activatable devices).
My Best Buy Plus: $29.99 a year
Plus adds member prices on selected products, early access to some sales, free 2-day shipping where available (Marketplace items excluded), a 60-day return and exchange window on most products (14 days for activatable devices), and rewards at 0.5 points per $1 spent, which Best Buy describes as 1% back. Tax does not earn points. The membership renews yearly at $29.99 plus tax until you cancel.
My Best Buy Total: $199.99 a year
Total includes everything in Plus and adds up to two years of protection, including AppleCare+, on most new Best Buy purchases while you remain a member; accidental damage coverage on portable products; 24/7 VIP tech support; free in-store and remote computer and tablet services; and 20% off Geek Squad repair labor (parts extra). Service fees and claim limits apply, and canceling ends remaining coverage. One catch on price: Best Buy’s membership page and FAQ say $199.99, but a footnote in Best Buy’s corporate announcement of the points program says $179.99. We report both and treat $199.99 as the current figure because it appears on the sales pages.
What the points are worth
Best Buy’s membership FAQ states that 250 points equal a $5 reward certificate, so each point is worth two cents. Points vest 15 days after purchase.
Worked example: a Plus member spends $500 before tax. At 0.5 points per $1 that is 250 points, or one $5 certificate (1%). Pay with the My Best Buy Credit Card using Standard Credit and the card adds 2.5 points per $1, another 1,250 points. Together that is 1,500 points, or $30 in certificates, the 6% Best Buy advertises.
Break-even math for Plus: at 1% back, rewards alone cover the $29.99 fee only after about $3,000 in yearly purchases. You are really paying for the returns, shipping and member prices.
My Best Buy Credit Card and financing
The My Best Buy Credit Card and My Best Buy Visa are issued by Citibank, N.A. On the store card, choosing Standard Credit earns 2.5 points per $1 (5% back); choosing a financing offer instead earns no points on that purchase. Newly approved cardmembers who use Standard Credit within the first 14 days get 10% back on their first day of purchases. The Visa earns 3% on gas, 2% on grocery, dining and takeout, and 1% elsewhere.
Financing offers are listed in the table above; the five product-specific 24-month offers ended 10/25/26 (expired), and the Fellow 2x rewards offer ends 11/1/26.
The disclosure lists variable purchase APRs of 27.99% to 30.99% on the store card and an annual fee of $0 to $59 based on creditworthiness, while the Visa section on the same page says “No annual fee.” The page did not explain whether interest is deferred on financing offers. At those APRs, carrying a balance erases the 5% quickly.
Price Match Guarantee
Best Buy matches the current price of an identical new item (same brand, model and color) sold by a “Qualified Competitor” on a list it links to, at the time of sale. It also matches its own lower price if it drops during your return window, which makes the 60-day Plus window more useful than it first looks.
The exclusions matter. Marketplace, clearance, open-box and refurbished items do not qualify, and neither do competitor membership pricing, daily or hourly flash sales, “Black Friday pricing” offers, coupons, bundles and limited-quantity deals. Competitor prices from the Thursday before Thanksgiving through the Monday after are excluded entirely. Request a match in store, through Best Buy Chat or by phone.
Worked example: you buy a TV for $600 as a free member (15-day returns) and Best Buy lowers it to $550 on day 20. You are outside the window, so no adjustment. A Plus member in the same spot is still inside 60 days and can ask for the $50 difference.
Top Deals, Deal of the Day, Open-Box and Outlet
Top Deals and Deal of the Day are Best Buy’s rotating sale prices. Quantities are limited, rainchecks are not available, and in-store prices can differ from online. No code is needed.
Open-box items come in three grades on Best Buy’s Outlet buying guide: Excellent (looks new, all parts or suitable replacements), Good (minor to moderate cosmetic wear, may lack packaging or accessories) and Fair (works as intended, more visible scratches or dents, accessories often missing). Refurbished products are restored and most carry at least a 90-day warranty. Clearance means new, sealed products that are discontinued or end-of-stock.
Trade-in
Best Buy pays trade-in value as a Best Buy e-Gift Card or as credit toward a new device. Its trade-in page was promoting up to $1,995 for qualifying cameras, lenses and action cameras (a maximum, not a typical value), and 20% off select Logitech accessories when you recycle a PC accessory. No dates were shown for either. Use its “Find device value” tool for a real quote.
Student offers
Best Buy’s College Student Deals and Back to School pages mostly list sale items, plus one line: “Use coupon codes to get a special student discount on some items.” Neither names a code, a product, an eligibility rule or a verification step, so we list it as unverified. For student programs with published terms, see our student discounts master list.
How to save at Best Buy without a promo code
- Create a free My Best Buy account for free standard shipping with no minimum.
- Price-check after you buy. If Best Buy drops the price inside your return window, ask for the difference.
- Check open-box first on big items, and read the grade; Excellent is the closest to new.
- Trade in old gear for a gift card before buying the replacement.
- Do the Plus math honestly. Pay $29.99 if longer returns and 2-day shipping are worth it to you; the points alone rarely are.
- Plan for big sale events. Best Buy’s Black Friday page names November 27 as the sale date. Our Black Friday deals guide and year-round shopping event calendar help you time purchases.
What we could not verify
- Total membership price. $199.99 on Best Buy’s membership page and FAQ; $179.99 in a corporate article footnote.
- Card annual fee. The disclosure says $0 to $59; the Visa section says no annual fee.
- Student coupon codes. Mentioned, never named or explained.
- A Black Friday price guarantee. We found none. The holiday FAQ mentions a Holiday Price Match Guarantee, but at last check it still described the previous season’s extended-return window, so we do not rely on it.
- Trade-in and Logitech offer dates, and reward certificate expiration periods (the FAQ says only that dates are printed on each certificate).
- A “Techtober Sale” banner said “ends Sunday” with no date or terms.
- The Qualified Competitor list, which sits on a separate page we did not load.
