ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Two women’s clothing retail stores on the ArtsWalk in downtown Allentown are closing up shop and moving online for all future business.

Sage and Aquarius are both expected to close by the end of February 2017, according to a sales clerk at the store.

The news broke on Sage’s Facebook page Thursday.

Sage had been at 14th and Tilghman streets in Allentown for 23 years, and then moved to the Promenade Shops, before moving to the ArtsWalk in 2015.

“We want to thank George Haddad for his commitment to the revitalization of Allentown and wish him well with his online store,” said Jeff Vaughan, the spokesperson for City Center Lehigh Valley, the developer behind much of the downtown revitalization.

About the future of the locations Vaughn added,”Due to the opening of STRATA East this spring, more retail is already being planned along the ArtsWalk, and interest has been very strong. Although we are not ready to officially announce today all of the new retail planned for the ArtsWalk — we will be in the very near future and are excited for the expanding retail environment here.”

However, Jon Clark, manager of nearby home furnishings store RE:find, says of the closings, “It’s difficult, no bones about it. There’s there’s no way to try and spin it. It’s hard when stores close and we hope that something comes in very soon right behind them.”

In the meantime, shoppers can get 40 to 60% off all items in Sage and Aquarius.

After that customers will be able to go to www.shopaquarius.com to see the store’s selection.
