Priceline Coupon Codes: Why There’s No Public Code, How VIP and Refer a Friend Work, and the Express Deals Trade-Off

Merchant: Priceline · What this page covers: where real Priceline promo codes come from, the Refer-a-Friend codes, Priceline VIP coupons and rates, Express Deals, Pricebreakers, app-only rates, and the cancellation rules that come with the cheapest prices · Sources: Priceline’s own pages, listed under Offer provenance.

Is there a Priceline coupon code right now? Not a public one that anyone can type in. When we reviewed Priceline’s own pages, the only live, published promo-code program was Refer a Friend in the Priceline app, which issues codes to people who send referrals and a $10-off coupon to the friends who join. Other Priceline coupons arrive personally: VIP “Insider” coupons after each completed trip, email-only coupons, and codes announced for specific sale events, which Priceline has historically run for a week or so and then ended.

The bigger savings at Priceline usually come from pricing products, not codes: Express Deals (you learn the hotel or rental company after booking), Pricebreakers (three named hotels, one revealed after purchase), VIP member rates, and packages. The cheapest options usually carry the strictest rules.

Where real Priceline promo codes come from

Priceline’s own pages point to a few sources, none of them a public code list.

  • Refer a Friend (app). This is the one program with full published terms, covered in the next section.
  • VIP Insider coupons. The VIP page says members get an Express Deal coupon after each trip, and the value goes up with tier.
  • Email-only coupons. The VIP page offers sign-up for “exclusive” email coupons. Priceline doesn’t say how often they come or what they’re worth.
  • Sale-event codes. Priceline’s Press Center has announced codes for specific events. Its 25th-anniversary campaign used BDAY25 ($25 off, valid 5/15 to 5/22/23) and VIP25 (a $25 coupon for Gold and Platinum members, valid 5/29 to 6/5/2023). A summer sale used SUMMER100, $100 off Express Deals hotels with a $500 minimum, valid for bookings June 29 to July 4, 2022. All have ended; the pattern is short windows, minimums, and often Express Deals only.

A Priceline code with no end date and no minimum, posted outside your account or inbox, deserves doubt. See how to spot fake coupon sites.

How Priceline’s Refer a Friend codes work

Priceline’s Refer a Friend terms describe a two-sided program that runs inside the app. The referrer earns a promo code at four milestones:

  • 1 referral: $25 promo code, which needs a $125 pre-tax, pre-fee subtotal
  • 5 referrals: $50 promo code, which needs a $250 subtotal
  • 10 referrals: $125 promo code, which needs a $625 subtotal
  • 20 referrals: $300 promo code, which needs a $1,500 subtotal

The friend gets a one-time $10-off coupon for a booking of $100 or more. Both sides’ rewards apply to Hotel Express Deals or “qualifying Hotel bookings” where promo codes are accepted in the app, in US dollars. The other key rules: friends must download the app and “create a Priceline Account by 12/31/2026 at 11:59pm EST from your link”; codes expire 30 days after they are issued; “Codes can not be combined”; you have to be signed in to redeem; and “Only one install per device and email address qualifies during the promotional period.”

Each minimum is five times the code’s value, so a code is worth at most 20% of the qualifying subtotal.

How Priceline VIP works

Priceline VIP is free and runs on completed trips, not spending. The VIP page lists these tiers:

  • Member: free sign-up. Hotel savings up to 10%, rental cars up to 10%, and a 5% Insider coupon after trips.
  • Blue: 2 completed trips. Hotel savings up to 50% at 15,000+ hotels, rental cars up to 15%, and a 5% coupon.
  • Gold: 5 completed trips, or holding the Priceline VIP Rewards Visa. Up to 50% at 30,000+ hotels, cars up to 20%, an 8% coupon, and priority customer service.
  • Platinum: 20 completed trips. Up to 50% at 45,000+ hotels, cars up to 20%, a 10% coupon, and “first priority” service.

Key rules from the VIP page: “Trips are considered complete one day after the trip concludes.” Cancelled bookings don’t count, there is no minimum spend, and a package counts each reservation separately. Progress counts only trips completed since January 1 of the calendar year, but your tier doesn’t expire. Bookings must use your profile’s email. VIP Family lets up to five people pool trips toward one shared tier (an older press release said three, so go by the VIP page). The Terms add that VIP benefits “may not be exchanged for cash.”

VIP also includes a Best Price Guarantee. The Terms say Priceline “may refund you the difference if you find a lower price on the same Priceline Channel within 24 hours of booking,” and that it “applies only to eligible bookings.” This compares Priceline against Priceline. It is not a match against other travel sites.

Express Deals and Pricebreakers: the trade-off

Express Deals are what Priceline calls its “biggest discounts.” Its savings guide puts them at up to 60% off hotels, up to 50% off flights, and up to 40% off rental cars. It gives an example of a $300-a-night hotel going for as little as $120. Priceline’s footnotes say these percentages are measured against “Priceline’s lowest retail rate for the same itinerary,” not against other sellers. The catch, in the Terms: “you will not know which exact Supplier you are booking with until after you complete your booking.”

Pricebreakers shows you more before you buy. According to Priceline’s launch press release, it groups “three similar, highly-rated hotels” (each with a review score above 7.0) under one price. You’re guaranteed a room at one of them, and the hotel is “revealed right after purchase.” The release says prices can be “up to half off published rates you can find elsewhere,” but it doesn’t say what those rates are measured against.

Both fall under the Terms’ Deal Program, whose bookings are “non-cancelable, non-refundable, non-changeable and non-transferable by you,” with no “credit for unused bookings” unless Priceline waives restrictions. Hotel bookings also “may not earn hotel loyalty points or qualify for upgrades.”

Example (our math, not a Priceline quote)

Say a hotel’s regular rate is $300 a night for three nights ($900), and an Express Deal for a similar hotel is $150 a night ($450). A new friend’s $10 coupon (over the $100 minimum) brings it to $440. A Gold member’s 8% Insider coupon instead takes $36 off, for $414. They can’t be stacked. Either way, almost all of the savings comes from the Express Deal price, not the coupon, and that booking can’t be refunded. These rates are hypothetical.

Mobile app-only rates

Priceline’s App Store listing promises “exclusive app-only hotel deals,” and its mobile app page mentions “mobile-only discounts,” but neither says how large they are or which hotels have them. Refer a Friend rewards also redeem only in the app, so check it before paying on desktop.

Cancellation terms to read before you book cheap

Priceline’s Terms say “Bookings are not automatically eligible for changes or cancellations,” and suppliers may charge fees. Some hotel rates are “non-cancellable, non-changeable, or non-refundable,” while some flexible rates “are cancellable under specific conditions.” Pay Later bookings are “automatically cancelled” if the charge fails on the due date. For flights, Priceline sells a Cancellation Coverage add-on: you cancel on the website (not the app or phone), get a “partial or full refund” of air costs depending on the service bought, and the add-on fee itself is “non-refundable.”

Military households: Priceline’s Press Center says it powers American Forces Travel, a Department of Defense booking site for people eligible for MWR programs. See our military discounts master list.

How to save at Priceline without a coupon

  • Create a free account to get Member rates (up to 10% on some hotels and rental cars), then work toward Blue at two completed trips.
  • Set up VIP Family to pool trips toward a higher tier.
  • Compare an Express Deal or Pricebreakers price with the cheapest refundable named-hotel rate before giving up flexibility.
  • Price hotel and flight as a package; Priceline says package savings “vary.”
  • Check the app for app-only hotel rates.
  • Recheck prices within 24 hours of booking for the VIP Best Price Guarantee.
  • Compare against airline sales, such as Delta flight deals or Frontier’s Discount Den.
  • See how to stack coupons, cashback, and rewards; Priceline referral codes can’t be combined with each other.

What we could not verify

  • Whether a given code works on every item in your cart. We did not run a checkout test.
  • Whether any sitewide public promo code was live. Priceline’s sale pages we checked (Season of Savings, Stars Stripes and Savings) showed no codes in the page text we could load.
  • Which hotels have app-only rates, and how big those discounts are.
  • How often VIP email-only coupons arrive and what they’re worth.
  • Whether Insider coupons have their own expiration or minimum. The VIP page lists only the percentage by tier.
  • Priceline’s full coupon help article. Only a summary loaded, saying coupons “only provide instant discounts” on Express Deals and rental car purchases, which doesn’t match the Refer a Friend terms for qualifying hotel bookings.
  • Priceline’s main Deals page, which didn’t load when we tried.

Frequently asked questions

Does Priceline have a promo code for first-time users?

Only through Refer a Friend: a one-time $10-off coupon on a $100+ hotel booking in the app. No general first-order code was published.

Can I use a promo code on an Express Deal?

Yes. Refer a Friend rewards apply to Hotel Express Deals, and VIP Insider coupons are issued as Express Deal coupons. Past event codes such as SUMMER100 were also limited to Express Deals hotels.

Five completed trips, or approval for the Priceline VIP Rewards Visa. Blue takes two trips and Platinum takes twenty. Cancelled bookings don’t count.
