Does Nike have a military discount, and how does it work? Yes. Nike’s help center publishes 10% off most items for active, reservist, veteran and retired U.S. military personnel, plus spouses and dependents of active personnel. Online, you confirm eligibility through SheerID and receive a single-use code that expires two weeks after it is issued; in U.S. Nike stores, you show a valid military ID at checkout. The discount covers only the first $500 of a qualifying purchase and can be combined only with free-shipping promo codes. Students, teachers, first responders and medical professionals get a similar 10% offer, but only online. We found no public, site-wide Nike promo code when we checked, so treat coupon-site codes as unverified.

How the Nike military discount actually works
It is the only one of Nike’s four verification programs that the help center says works in Nike stores.
Who qualifies
The help page names “active, reservist, veteran, and retired US military personnel,” plus the spouses and dependents of active personnel. Online verification may ask for government-issued documents showing your name, branch and current status.
Getting and using the online code
- Start the verification form on Nike’s military discount help page. Nike uses SheerID, a third-party service.
- Most checks are instant; document review can take up to 20 minutes, and the code arrives by email.
- Sign in to your Nike Member profile and enter the code at checkout on Nike.com or in the Nike App.
Each code works once and expires two weeks after it is issued. You can request a new code once every seven days by re-verifying.
Using it in a Nike store
In U.S. Nike stores, you skip the code and show a valid military ID at checkout. Nike’s page doesn’t name which IDs it accepts. It also says the discount “isn’t valid at Nike Company Stores” and that some in-store restrictions apply, with details available in stores. The page doesn’t mention Nike Factory, Nike Clearance or Nike Well Collective stores by name, so call your local store before you go.
Exclusions and the $500 cap
The discount excludes Nike By You custom products, gift cards, select Launch and SNKRS products, and Apple products, and Nike adds that “other exclusions may apply.” It combines only with free-shipping codes and can’t be applied to earlier purchases.
Here is what the cap means in dollars (our math, not a Nike quote). On a $180 order, 10% saves $18, so you pay $162 before tax, and a Member pays no standard shipping because the order is over $50. On a $700 order, the 10% applies only to the first $500, so the savings stop at $50, about 7% of the full order.
For other retailers that publish service-member pricing, see our military discounts master list. Under Armour publishes a larger percentage for some of the same groups; our Under Armour military, first responder and teacher discount guide lays out its terms.
First responder and medical professional discount
Nike offers 10% off most items on Nike.com and in the Nike App to U.S. first responders and medical professionals who are Nike Members. The help page lists doctors, nurses, technicians, medical researchers, EMTs, firefighters and law enforcement “among others.” So there is no separate Nike nurse discount; nurses use this program.
SheerID may ask medical professionals for a current license and first responders for proof of their organization and status. The code rules match the military program. The key difference is location. Nike’s page says this discount can’t be used in Nike stores.
Teacher discount
Teachers, faculty and administrators employed at an accredited K-12 school or university in the U.S. get 10% off most items online, as long as they are Nike Members. SheerID checks your school-issued email address, and may ask for a school document showing your name and the current term. Examples include a dated ID card or a pay stub from the last 90 days.
It is online only, with the same code rules. Our teacher discounts master list covers other educator programs and how to set up verification once.
Student discount
High school, college and university students in the U.S. who are 16 or older get 10% off most items on Nike.com and in the Nike App. The code rules mirror the other programs, and it doesn’t work in Nike stores. Compare it with other student programs in our student discounts master list; sneaker shoppers may also want our guide to Journeys rewards and its student discount.
Nike Membership: what the free account actually gets you
Nike Membership is free. The membership page says “Zero money gets you access to all of it.” The concrete benefits we could confirm on Nike’s pages:
- Free standard shipping on orders of $50 or more. Under $50, Members pay $5. Guests get free standard shipping only at $75 or more and pay $8 below that. You must be signed in to get the Member rate.
- Free returns. Nike’s return policy says returns are free for Members.
- Receipt-free returns and exchanges in store or in the Nike App, according to the membership page. Nike’s return policy page still asks for proof of purchase, so keep your order number handy.
The shipping gap is worth real money (our math): a $60 order costs a guest $8 for standard shipping and a signed-in Member nothing. If you also use a 10% verification code, keep in mind that Nike calculates shipping fees after discounts, so a $54 order that drops to $48.60 after 10% off falls under the $50 Member threshold and picks up the $5 fee.
The birthday offer
Members with a birthday saved in their profile receive 10% off select items, issued on their birthday and generally valid for about 60 days. There is a $100 minimum purchase, the discount applies to the first $500, and it is one-time use, so the most it can save is $50. It applies automatically online and works in U.S. Nike stores via the Nike App. You must join before your birthday; Nike’s page wording is inconsistent on whether that means before the day or before the month, so join well ahead.
The Friends & Family Pass
Nike occasionally sends select Members a pass for 30% off at Nike and Converse Factory and Clearance stores in the U.S. and Canada. It is not valid in regular Nike stores, can’t be transferred, and expires on the date printed on the pass. Nike doesn’t say how recipients are chosen.
Price adjustments and returns
Nike’s Member price adjustment policy covers Nike.com and Nike App purchases. If the same item (same style number, color and size) drops in price through an eligible Nike promotion or sale within 14 days, contact Nike and it refunds the difference to your original payment method. There is one adjustment per product. Exclusions include sitewide sales, BOGO offers, coupons, birthday offers, final-sale items, Nike By You, SNKRS products and in-store-only prices.
The return window is 60 days from delivery or in-store purchase, with proof of purchase. Online orders can be returned to most Nike stores or shipped back. Two warnings: Nike Clearance store purchases are final sale, and items bought elsewhere can’t be returned to a Clearance store.
Other retailers that sell Nike
Multi-brand stores handle discounts differently; see how Foot Locker’s FLX rewards and military and student discounts work, how DICK’S ScoreCard and price match work, and what Academy Sports publishes for military and first responders.
How to save at Nike without a coupon
- Join Nike Membership before you buy. It’s free and lowers the free-shipping threshold from $75 to $50.
- Save your birthday in your profile now, since the birthday offer goes only to Members who joined in time.
- Verify for the 10% program you qualify for right before you check out, since each code expires two weeks after it’s issued.
- Keep each order near $500 or less when using a 10% code, because savings stop at the first $500.
- Browse the Sale section, where markdowns need no code.
- Watch your purchase for 14 days and request a Member price adjustment if Nike marks it down.
- Visit a Nike Factory Store, which Nike’s help center suggests for deals.
What we could not verify
- Whether the military discount applies in Nike Factory, Nike Clearance or Nike Well Collective stores. The help page says only “Nike stores” and excludes “Nike Company Stores.”
- Which military IDs Nike stores accept, and whether veterans need a specific card in store.
- The specific in-store restrictions that the military page says apply.
- A U.S. promotional terms and conditions page. We found Nike’s promo hub but no U.S. terms page covering rules such as one code per order.
- Any current sitewide sale event, Member-day event or dated promotion. None was listed on the pages we reviewed.
- Any senior discount. Nike lists none.
- Any working promo code. No checkout test was performed.
